Tips to Increasing Boiler Efficiency and Heat Recovery

· Boiler

Most of the central heating problems occur because of the change in weather conditions. In-activeness of the heating system across the summer season without being used stops the unit to work adequately and efficiently. If possible, it is most helpful to turn on the boiler frequently during the summer season to ensure the functioning of the system over the winter season. As per the research, most boilers’ breakdown issue occurs due to being inactive for an extended period. Also, with increased age, boilers can become less efficient, creating a rise in fuel expenses.

Here we are recommending some ways to increase your boiler efficiency and heat recovery:

  • Reducing excess air- The most obvious cause for energy inefficiencies in your boiler can be the use of excess air through combustion at the heaters. When there is extra air than the required quantity for combustion, the extra air gets flamed and sent to the environment. The quantity of excess air can make a difference in the efficiency of your boiler.

  • Installing economizer- Another way you can choose to improve efficiency is to incorporate heat recovery into a boiler unit. This is only suitable when there are inadequate heat removal surfaces in the boiler. The economizer may include either circulating boiler water or circulating feed water in the tubes. There are two types of economizers available; standard economizer and condensing economizer.

  • Reducing blowdown- Blowdown of water involves firing hot water into the pipes. This process is essential to maintain the boiler water collection of dismissed elements that are required for controlling the boiler water and for preventing boiler corrosion.

  • Reclaiming waste heat- Recovering heat from blowdown is the most effective method purifying destructive solids from the steam boiler unit. Blowdown containers, heat exchanger pipes, and pumping systems can be assembled to regain some of the wasted heat back into the boiler.

  • Decreasing boiler pressure- Another possible way to reduce heat losses through leakages or transmission is by decreasing the boiler pressure. Nevertheless, the boiler with reduced pressure might have problems. There may be problems such as disturbed boiler circulation, inadequate capacity of steam lines, etc.

  • Preheating combustion- The utilization of heat loss from the surface of the boiler to the boiler room could be possible for combustion. Preheating the input air leads to the improved efficiency of combustion in the boiler.

  • Switching to pocket-friendly fuel- Examine the expense of natural gas and fuel oil, if the value is the equivalent, you should change over to fuel oil.
